Mrs. Hala Al Bukhari Teaching Personal Statement

I discovered my passion for teaching Arabic when I saw how much my own children enjoyed learning with me at home and because I have a keen interest in teaching and the learning process of children so I decided to draw a smile on other children’s faces. This has been confirmed by my work experience report from lesson observations and parent feedback
I started teaching since 2008, starting off as an Arabic teacher in The Winchester School for one year then I worked as a Head of Arabic Department for non-Arabs for two years. I then worked in The Horizon School for nearly one year before working in Jumeirah Primary School. I believe that this gave me a holistic experience of teaching in Dubai
I believe that it is safe to say that I left a mark within each school that I worked in; in Winchester, I started the idea of an Arabic library with leveled books that I chose with my Arabic team. This was the first Arabic library in that school. At Horizon, I suggested to use old Arabic dictionaries that were intended to be thrown out for students in classes. In my current school. I have done training workshops at the level of GEMS schools and have also involved parents of year one students in a programme called ‘My little Arabic teachers at home’ in which students would attempt to teach the letters to their parents. So far, the programme has seen great success with some parents now capable of writing entire words
Finally, to keep myself on a track, I enjoy updating my knowledge about teaching and learning. Recently, I finished a TESOL course with an ‘A’ grade and am now involved in an Arabic research project with the KHDA revolving around the ‘effectiveness of learning songs to improve reading skills of the year one non-Arab speakers” in addition to the ATP training with TELLAL
